Joyful gatherings for heart centered people
For the last year and a half, we have been gathering community in creative ways all over San Francisco to help foster authentic connection while getting people explore their city, together!
Homecoming
Some people called it the Coachella of block parties. The goal of Homecoming was to bring a neighborhood full of factories into a connected community for the day to create a deeper sense of belonging.
After living in San Francisco for 4 years I felt it was time to contribute something big to my community. I invited everyone to share their gifts. People brought what they love, the things they’re good at, the things they’ve been wanting to offer but never quite had the space to. The concept was simple. Invite the neighborhood and businesses to contribute their gifts, freely, as a way to foster a deeper sense of belonging.
What unfolded was bigger than I could have imagined. Homecoming became a full day neighborhood festival with over 45 contributed experiences. We have over 50 volunteers that helped facilitate the event. There were movement classes, art, music, workshops, and so many unexpected moments of joy happening all at once
Some incredible highlights include mural tours by local muralist Sirron Norris, A Trick Dog menu history tours, kids singing lessons with Little Mission Studio, a street garden talk from Eileen, community-led talks throughout the day at The Verdi Club, Dandelion Chocolate factory tour and tasting, The Aesthetic Union print press and machine tours with make-your-own postcards, yoga and a sound bath from Serving Sundays. There was ribbon dancing, The Drop In, and we ended with a community talent show!
Ride The Light
Ride the Light was a 100+ person bike ride through San Francisco focused on getting people on bikes together and learning about the city’s public art.
Ben Davis of Illuminate joined us to share the history behind the work, how these projects come to life, and the broader impact of public art on San Francisco. We rode as a group through different parts of the city, stopping along the way to visit major light installations and public art pieces in community. The ride brought together a mix of people from across the city, creating a shared experience of movement, learning, and connection.
Golden Stroll was a 100+ person group park walk through San Francisco Golden Gate Park designed to bring people together while learning about the city’s history.
Peter Coleridge, a San Francisco historian, joined us to share stories about the city’s past, the layers of history in each part of the park, and how the park has evolved over time. (Did you know there used to be a casino next the the Conservatory of Flowers?!) We walked together through the park, stopping along the way to hear about key places and moments that have shaped the city.
Along the route, we did a sound bath meditation in the redwood grove, stopped at the Dahlia Dell to learn more about San Francisco’s favorite flower, and even ran into the LGBTQ+ marching band for an impromptu serenade!
There was an 86-year-old and a 6-month-old baby in attendance, proving these gatherings are for everyone! The stroll brought together a mix of people from across the city, creating a shared experience of movement, learning, and connection all in the heart of our beloved Golden Gate Park
